Menaker Yassierli Checks Data 126 Thousand Layoffs, Ojol Presidential Decree is Said to be Completed
JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower Yassierli said the government would check the BPJS data from January to May 2025 there were layoffs or layoffs which were said to have reached around 126 thousand people based on BPJS Manpower membership and collected by Apindo.
Yassierli did not immediately confirm the figure. He said information about layoffs must be clarified first before being followed up by the government.
"We just said that there was information about layoffs that we had to clarify, we had to check. Later we will follow up on everything," said Yassierli at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday, July 31.
Yassierli made this statement when asked about the data on layoffs of around 126 thousand workers. The data is said to come from BPJS Employment membership collected by the Indonesian Employers Association or Apindo.
Yassierli has not explained which sector is most affected by layoffs. He also has not detailed when the results of the clarification of the data will be announced.
Apart from layoffs, Yassierli also touched on the development of presidential regulations or perpres related to online taxis. According to him, labor protection is the main concern of the Ministry of Manpower.
"We must focus on the main protection of work, that is number one," he said.
When asked about the progress of the discussion on the ojol presidential decree, Yassierli ensured that the issue remained a concern for the government.
"That must be our concern. Just calm down," he said.
Yassierli said the discussion of the ojol presidential decree had been completed. When asked if the rules were just announced, he answered briefly.
"Yes," Yassierli said.
The ojol presidential decree has come under scrutiny because it concerns protection for workers in transportation-based applications. However, Yassierli has not detailed the form of protection that will be regulated, including the BPJS Employment scheme for ojol drivers.
