Oscar Indonesia 2026 Selection Opens, Best Film Has the Chance to Appear at the 99th Academy Awards

JAKARTA - The Official Selection Committee of the 2026 Indonesian Oscar has officially opened the registration of Indonesian films that will be selected to represent Indonesia at the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars) in the International Feature Film Award category.

The selection process will be carried out by the Indonesian Oscar Selection Committee (The Indonesian Oscar Selection Committee/IOSC) which was formed by the Indonesian Film Industry Association (PPFI) as the official executor of the Indonesian Oscar Selection. The committee is composed of film professionals and observers whose approval is carried out by the Academy Awards.

In its announcement, the committee explained that films registered must meet a number of key requirements. One of them is that the film must first be released in Indonesia as the country of origin in the period from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026.

In addition, films must be shown to the public in commercial cinemas for at least seven consecutive days and be promoted and distributed in accordance with the general practice of distributing feature films.

The Academy Awards also allow films to meet eligibility requirements if they are shown theatrically outside the country of origin, as long as the screening is outside the United States and its territories.

In addition, all films registered must meet all the provisions of the International Feature Film Award category along with other eligibility requirements set by the Academy Awards.

The committee set the deadline for registration on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 17.00 WIB. Files that are entered after the deadline or do not meet the administrative requirements and selection provisions will not be considered.

The selected film will later become Indonesia's representative in the competition for the 99th Academy Awards, whose award night is scheduled to take place on March 14, 2027 at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, United States.
