Pullman Central Park Fire Allegedly Caused by Electrical Short Circuit

JAKARTA - The fire that occurred at the Pullman Jakarta Central Park Hotel, West Jakarta, Saturday morning was allegedly triggered by an electrical short circuit that occurred on the second floor of the building.

Quoted from the Command Center of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), the damkar officers received a report of the incident at 07.59 WIB and as many as seven fire trucks were immediately deployed as an initial response and arrived at the location at around 08.04 WIB.

The extinguishing operation began at 08.05 WIB. The fire was successfully localized in just two minutes, at 08.07 WIB, before entering the cooling phase at 08.15 WIB. The entire handling process was completed at 09.15 WIB.

"Situation and status of the fire: the blackout is over," the statement read, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 1.

In handling this, the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Office deployed a total of 14 fire trucks with 70 personnel.

Based on the initial emergency report received, the fire started at around 07.54 WIB when the hotel security officer who was checking the emergency stairs on the P5 floor smelled smoke.

After checking, officers found a fire on the P4 floor and tried to put it out using a light fire extinguisher (APAR). However, the fire could not be extinguished so the security officers immediately reported the incident to the West Jakarta Fire Department.

Officers suspect that the fire was triggered by an electrical phenomenon on the second floor of the building. Until the extinguishing operation was completed, the fire had been successfully extinguished and the situation at the location was declared safe.

There is no information regarding casualties or the amount of losses due to the incident.
