US-Israel Said to Prepare Major Attack on Iran's Energy Infrastructure

JAKARTA - The United States and Israel are preparing a massive bombing operation against Iran's energy infrastructure, with the attack taking place this weekend.

A CBS News report said there was discussion of completing the operation before the stock market opened again on Monday, given concerns over the impact of the attack on the economy, although no deadline was set.

Israel has received relevant briefings and continues to coordinate with Washington, although US President Donald Trump has yet to issue a final approval, according to sources.

An Israeli official claimed that his party had no information regarding the decision to start a large-scale military operation against Iran and had not been asked to participate in an attack operation on Iran.

During a cabinet meeting at Camp David, the US presidential retreat, Trump said the US would attack Iran so hard, "to the point where they'll say, 'we can't take it anymore'."

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt insisted the US "will prevail" and Iran will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said his party was "ready to shoot" while refusing to reveal the target of the attack before the presidential decision.

A CBS News report said power plants and refining facilities could be targets of a US-Israeli attack. The US is also considering an attack to cut off electricity to Tehran.

A separate report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing US officials, said the new attack was agreed upon at Camp David.

To WSJ, officials said Trump might suspend the attacks and return to negotiations with Iran if there was "immediate progress on diplomatic efforts".

Meanwhile, citing senior Iranian security officials, the Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had prepared a "comprehensive plan" to retaliate against the US attack in any form.

The official told Tasnim that the new plan to attack Iran was a "recklessness".

"We have prepared a comprehensive plan for retaliation, including against critical infrastructure in Israel as well as US energy infrastructure in the region, and we are ready to do so," the official said.

He also stressed that Tehran has a strong "ability and determination" to retaliate against the US-Israeli attack.
