Indonesia strengthens cooperation to eradicate online fraud with Cambodia
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arif Havas Oegroseno led an Indonesian cross-ministerial delegation to Phnom Penh to strengthen cooperation in combating online fraud.
During the visit on July 27-29, 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas and the Indonesian delegation met with a number of high-ranking Cambodian officials to strengthen cooperation in combating online fraud.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Cambodia Sar Sokha, and led a bilateral meeting with the Senior Minister for Special Missions and Head of the Secretariat of the Cambodian Online Fraud Eradication Commission Chhay Sinarith.
Cambodia welcomes Indonesia's proposal to form a Joint Task Force (Joint Task Force) to eradicate online fraud syndicates, which will be tasked with coordinating legal action for Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are involved in online fraud syndicates in Cambodia, launching the statement of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh (31/7).
Cambodia also responded positively to Indonesia's offer of assistance in the form of training for law enforcement officials to meet the criteria of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and training in digital forensics.
The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Havas, used this opportunity to encourage the completion of the extension of cooperation in eradicating transnational crimes and capacity development between the Indonesian National Police and the Cambodian Ministry of the Interior.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas also expressed appreciation for the plan to hold an international conference on online anti-fraud which will be held in Phnom Penh in September 2026.
"Indonesia supports Cambodia's initiative and is ready to participate in the conference," said Foreign Minister Havas.
While in Phnom Penh, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs took the time to visit a temporary shelter for Indonesian citizens who were former online fraud syndicates who were waiting for the repatriation process.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Havas received an explanation regarding the facilitation efforts that have been provided by the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, as well as discussing legal action for Indonesian citizens upon their arrival in the country.
In addition to strengthening cooperation in combating online fraud, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs also used the visit to share views on the development of the geopolitical landscape in a public lecture attended by more than 100 Cambodian government officials and members of the diplomatic corps in Phnom Penh.
In his lecture, the Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of international cooperation and diplomacy in dealing with global dynamics marked by competition.
"The dynamic geopolitical landscape requires continuous dialogue and mutual understanding to maintain regional stability and strengthen cooperation between countries," said Foreign Minister Havas.
