Drone Attack Causes Fire at Russian Energy Facility in Volgograd

JAKARTA - A drone attack burned energy facilities and warehouses in the Volgograd region of Russia on Friday, injuring five people, the region's governor, Andrei Bocharov, said, but did not provide details of the facilities.

The region is home to an oil refinery owned by Lukoil.

"Five people are seeking medical assistance after the attack," Bocharov added on Telegram.

Leading online retailer Wildberries said in a statement on Telegram that one of its logistics centers in the city of Volgograd was on fire after the attack, but there were no injuries, as reported by Al Arabiya from Reuters (31/7).

Ukraine has recently stepped up attacks on Wildberries facilities, along with continued attacks on energy facilities that have triggered a supply crisis in much of Russia.

Wildberries, several of whose warehouses were also hit by the attack last Thursday, had previously said it had paid the second installment of financial aid to almost 100,000 sellers whose merchandise was damaged.

Meanwhile, in the southern Rostov region, a woman was injured after a drone attack in the city of Gukovo, said regional governor Yuri Slyusar on the messaging app.

Ukraine, whose own cities are under constant Russian attack, says its assaults deep inside its neighbor are "long-term sanctions" designed to weaken Moscow's war-making ability and force it to end the 4 1/2-year conflict.
