Spanish authorities have closed the Beni Ansar border post, the only Spanish-Moroccan border crossing in Melilla, after migrants tried to break through the barricades to force their way into Spanish territory.

Reported by the Spanish international news agency, EFE, security forces also thwarted the immigrants' attempts to illegally enter Spanish territory.

The report also revealed that police patrols had been deployed to the border post as well as several other points along the border.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, July 31, the closure of the border post in Melilla was carried out amid the escalating migration crisis in two Spanish autonomous cities in North Africa bordering Morocco.

Previously, thousands of Moroccan youths gathered on the border between Morocco and Ceuta. Spanish authorities then deployed additional troops to the city consisting of the national police, military forces, and civilian guards.
