KPK Questioned Harun Masiku's Pursuit: Don't Let Him Die

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that their fugitive, namely Harun Masiku who is a suspect in the alleged bribe for the exchange of members of the DPR, is still being pursued. However, they also do not rule out the possibility that the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) candidate has died.

This was conveyed by Deputy Chairman of the KPK Fitroh Rohcahyanto when asked about the latest news on the pursuit of Harun Masiku.

This figure is known to have disappeared since January 2020. He was not sniffed out after the KPK carried out a hand-in-hand operation (OTT) related to the alleged bribery of the PAW Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"If we have done our best, but we haven't found it, maybe it's dead. We don't know either," Fitroh told reporters at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, quoted on Friday, July 31.

Even so, the KPK ensured that it would continue to search for Harun as long as the case had not expired. In fact, the possibility of trying in absentia or without presence has also begun to be discussed.

Fitroh said this method could be used so that the parties could immediately get legal certainty.

"Perhaps the discourse that is legally possible, we will try to discuss later in absentia," he said.

As a reminder, Harun Masiku is suspected of having arranged the PAW process with the former KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan so that he could replace the elected DPR member from the South Sumatra I Electoral District. However, he disappeared so that he was included in the search list on January 17, 2020.

In the development of the case, the KPK has processed a number of parties. Among them, the former PDI Perjuangan cadre Saeful Bahri and Wahyu Setiawan's confidants, Agustiani Tio Fridelina have also been sentenced because they were proven to be involved in the case.

The investigation then developed into an alleged obstruction of the investigation. The KPK named PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect for alleged bribery related to the PAW of members of the Indonesian Parliament as well as allegedly obstructing the investigation of the Harun Masiku case.

Meanwhile, Hasto then received amnesty from President Prabowo Subianto on July 31, 2025. He was then released from the KPK Detention Center despite being sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
