DCDC Music Court Apresiasi 20 Years of The Changcuters Journey in the Music Industry

JAKARTA - The Changcuters became 'defendants' in the 65th Edition of the DCDC Music Court event held at Yess Café, Bandung, on Wednesday, July 29. This parody-like trial tests the career journey of the five members - Tria, Qibil, Alda, Dipa, and Erick - who have worked for more than two decades in the music industry of the country.

In the trial, which was led by comedian Denny Chandra as the presiding judge, the rock and roll unit was questioned by two public prosecutors, Pidi Baiq and Budi Dalton. Meanwhile, the defense team was filled by the vocalist of Alone At Last, Yash Budaya, along with comedian Kamaludin Arisatu alias Kamal Ocon.

DCDC representative, Agus Danny Hartono, stated that consistency was the main reason for The Changcuters to face the green table of this parody. Tria cs was considered successful in maintaining the visual identity, music color, to stage performance since their first appearance in 2004.

"The Changcuters are an example that a band can continue to grow without having to abandon its identity. That's what makes their journey interesting to study at the Music Court," said Danny in his statement, Friday, July 31.

"This year they also made an important achievement by bringing their work to perform in three cities in England, as well as releasing the WOW MA album," continued Danny.

The concert tour in three English cities - Newcastle, Edinburgh, and London - which took place in April last year became a momentum of proof from the lyrics of their iconic song released 20 years ago, "Hijrah to London".

In addition to discussing overseas tours, the trial also dissected the philosophy behind the band's work ethic.

Tria emphasized that the energetic and action-packed stage image was fortified through a disciplined creative process. The inspiration was absorbed from the early 2000s garage rock revival wave such as The Strokes to the legendary band The Beatles.

"I believe that any big rock band, behind them they are very serious. Rock and roll that performs with a casual image is just an appearance. Behind it, there is actually a lot of hard work and creativity," said Tria in front of the court panel.

Not only reviewing the history of the formation of the band formation, the trial also highlighted the launch of their latest album, "WOW MA", which was released in mid-June. The term was taken from a typical internal call that is now immortalized as the name of the album and their independent label.

After listening to the defense and consideration of the clerk of Yoga PHB, Presiding Judge Denny Chandra also decided to acquit The Changcuters from all charges of parody. This decision officially recognizes The Changcuters' two-decade contribution to coloring the Indonesian music industry.

"This is the result of the DCDC Music Court which tried and examined case number 1.65/DCDC/2026 with the defendant The Changcuters declared free from all charges," concluded Denny Chandra while hitting the trial hammer.
