Janice Tjen Eliminated in the 16th Round of the Mubadala DC Open 2026
JAKARTA - Indonesia's mainstay tennis player, Janice Tjen, ended her career in the 16-strong event at the WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open 2026 or Washington Open 2026 after losing dramatically to the fifth seed from Russia, Anna Kalinskaya.
Janice failed to extend her journey after losing a three-set match with a score of 6-1, 3-6, and 6-7 in Washington D.C., United States, on Thursday local time or Friday, July 31, 2026, dawn WIB.
Janice actually started the match very convincingly. The 24-year-old immediately appeared aggressive and was able to lead 5-0 before Kalinskaya narrowed the gap to 1-5.
However, Janice did not let the momentum continue. He was able to secure the next game to close the first set with a landslide victory 6-1.
In the second set, Kalinskaya started to find the rhythm of the game. The Russian-born tennis player was ahead first, but Janice gave resistance until the score was tied 2-2.
Kalinskaya then slowly took control of the match after that. Janice had trouble keeping up with her opponent's game and eventually had to surrender the second set with a score of 3-6.
The competition was getting tighter in the deciding set. Kalinskaya was in a two-point lead, but Janice showed a strong fighting spirit by rising and turning the situation around.
Janice even managed to turn the score 5-4. However, Kalinskaya was able to respond and force the third set to be determined through a tie-break.

Janice still has hopes in the same tournament as she is still surviving in the women's doubles with her partner Shuai Zhang. The pair have reached the semifinals and will face Makoto Ninomiya/Andreja Klepac.
