Trump Announces Hamas Ceasefire Deal and Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said on Thursday a deal had been reached to "completely upgrade" Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, with Israeli forces withdrawing as the process progressed.

President Trump said the deal, which he described as a "historic" step towards peace and security, would be implemented gradually.

"The agreement will be implemented in a carefully structured phase. After the disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with the new Palestinian police forces to take responsibility for Gaza's security for its residents and neighbors," he wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, quoted from Anadolu (31/7).

He further said the agreement was a "major milestone" in the implementation of his 20-point plan for Gaza, adding that the territory would eventually be ruled by a "new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Peace Council to help the Palestinian people."

President Trump also thanked Egypt, Qatar and Turkey for their mediation efforts, saying that their cooperation, along with his administration's team, had helped bring about this "historic breakthrough".

"A year ago there was a violent war, a humanitarian crisis, and hostages held in brutal captivity. We have made historic progress and there is still much work to be done," he said.

The Israeli genocide war in Gaza, which began after a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023 by the Palestinian group Hamas, killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 174,000 others, mostly women and children, and destroyed about 90 percent of the region's infrastructure.

The two sides then agreed to a ceasefire mediated by President Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza, which is overseen by his Peace Council.

Although the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, 2025, Israel continued to carry out daily attacks throughout Gaza, killing 1,214 Palestinians and injuring 3,977 others, mostly women and children, and causing widespread destruction.
