Janice Tjen Advances to the Semifinal of the Mubadala DC Open 2026

JAKARTA - Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen showed a solid fighting spirit when she secured a ticket to the semifinals of the women's doubles at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open. She and her partner, Zhang Shuai, bounced back from a deficit to get the win.

Janice/Zhang managed to pass the test in the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 event by defeating the Japanese/Mexican pair, Miyu Kato and Giuliana Olmos, in a three-set match 4-6, 6-2, and 10-0 in Washington, United States, on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Janice/Zhang faced a difficult first set match. They had to go down in that set after Kato/Olmos took the last two games to secure the victory and put them on top.

The third seeded pair immediately changed the rhythm of the game in the second set. They appeared more aggressive, taking advantage of two service breaks to control the match, then closing the set with a convincing 6-2 victory.

Winning the second set made Janice/Zhang force the match to be determined through a super tie-break. In this round, they really didn't give their opponents any room by sweeping 10 points in a row without losing a single point.

Based on WTA statistics, Janice/Zhang recorded three aces, while Kato/Olmos failed to produce a single ace. The third seeded pair also won 67 of the total 122 points contested and converted four of 12 break point opportunities.

Janice/Zhang will next face the winner of the duel between the top seeded pair, Sara Errani/Nicole Melichar-Martinez, against Andrea Klepac/Makoto Ninomiya. Both pairs have not fought when this news was written.

In addition to playing in the women's doubles, Janice also competed in the women's singles. In that category, she has managed to advance to the second round and will meet the fifth seed Anna Kalinskaya, a Russian tennis player.
