Pramono Buys 40-hectare Land in Ciangir to Hold Jakarta Organic Waste 

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that the DKI Provincial Government has released 40 hectares of land in Ciangir, Banten, to accommodate organic waste from Jakarta.

Pramono said the land was prepared specifically for the processing of organic waste in a more integrated waste management scheme.

"There is one breakthrough made by the DKI Jakarta Government, we have freed land in Banten, in Ciangir, to accommodate only organic ones, 40 hectares," said Pramono in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, Thursday, July 30.

Pramono said this step was part of a change in the waste management system, which was targeted to reduce dependence on the Bantargebang Waste Treatment Plant.

"Tomorrow Friday I will see and this is one part of the waste management ecosystem in Jakarta. Where is the organic, where is the inorganic, where is the RDF result, then we throw the residue into Bantargebang, that's what we do," he said.

According to Pramono, the policy is in line with the change in waste management in Bantargebang which began to be implemented on August 1. The government targets only waste residues that will be disposed of at the location, along with the gradual cessation of open dumping practices.

"After there is a regulation that regulates Bantar Gebang, that starting August 1, Bantargebang will no longer all depend on the open dumping, we want to start that the most important thing that is thrown into Bantargebang is the residue," he explained.

He said that waste management in Jakarta would be carried out comprehensively, including maximizing the function of waste processing facilities reduce, reuse, recycle (TPS 3R).

Pramono explained that the 3R TPS is no longer just a temporary shelter, but is directed to become a sorting, transportation, and waste processing center.

"We are making the most of the 3R TPS. If before the 3R TPS only accommodated garbage, now, as I said earlier, which has been changed to sort-transport-process all 3R TPS," said Pramono.

According to him, the optimization of the 3R TPS will significantly reduce the volume of waste sent to Bantargebang while waiting for the construction of a waste-to-energy plant in Jakarta.

Pramono also emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government opened opportunities for creative financing through cooperation with the private sector in waste management.

"So, with this kind of creative financing, the cooperation between the private sector and the DKI Jakarta Government that mutually benefits will continue and we are open to it," he said.
