President Prabowo Officially Opens Tawang Station, Continues Jajal Nusantara Explorer

SEMARANG - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Semarang Tawang Station, Semarang City, Central Java, Thursday, after the historic building was officially revitalized for the first time by PT KAI from May 2025 to December 2025.

At the inauguration event, President Prabowo pressed the siren button together with PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, and Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi.

"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this afternoon, Thursday, July 30, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the revitalization of Semarang Tawang Station," said President Prabowo, which was followed by pressing the siren button as a symbol of inauguration.

After that, President Prabowo greeted one by one the officials who joined him in pressing the siren button.

President Prabowo, together with a group of officials, then walked to the platform to try out the Kereta Nusantara Explorer service, which is the latest service from PT KAI to support tourism.

From Semarang City, President Prabowo boarded the Nusantara Explorer Train to Batang Regency, Central Java.

In Batang Regency, President Prabowo is scheduled to attend a mass KPR ceremony for 62,000 subsidized houses held simultaneously at 165 points in 372 regencies/cities in 36 provinces.

On a separate occasion, the Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya, who accompanied the agenda of the President's working visit to Central Java, explained that the Nusantara Explorer Train was a manifestation of President Prabowo's desire for KAI to have a beautiful and elegant passenger train service.

"This train is a manifestation of the President's desire for KAI to have a beautiful, elegant, and comfortable passenger train service for the public," said the Presidential Secretariat, Teddy.

Meanwhile, regarding the revitalization of Semarang Tawang Station, the building of the Dutch East Indies colonial government is currently a cultural heritage status based on the Regulation of the Minister of Culture and Tourism Number PM.57/PW007/MKP/2010.

The revitalization, which is a direction from President Prabowo to KAI, was carried out by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 4 Semarang for 240 days, starting from May 5 until December 30, 2025.

The scope of revitalization at Semarang Tawang Station includes the arrangement of luxury trunk rooms, VIP rooms, main halls, corridor repairs, and improvements to the drainage system to anticipate puddles and flooding during the rainy season.

The renovation aims to restore the authenticity of the historical architectural facade, overcome the problem of waterlogging and flash floods, as well as improve facilities and service comfort for customers.

Semarang Tawang Station was built by the Nederlandsch-Indische Maatschappij (NISM) in 1911 and began operating in 1914. The station building was designed by Dutch architect Sloth-Blauwboer and built in 1911 to be inaugurated in 1914.
