Border Access is No Longer Isolated, the Ministry of PU Extends Handling of Krayan Road
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to strengthen connectivity in border areas through the handling of the Krayan Ring Road in North Kalimantan Province.
This step is taken to increase public accessibility as well as encourage economic growth in Indonesia's leading regions.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo explained that the government is committed to maintaining the stability of the national road network so that it is still able to support community mobility and regional economic activities.
"The PU Ministry ensures that handling is carried out gradually, planned and sustainable so that the road remains fit for function," said Dody, quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, July 29.
The Krayan Ring Road, which is part of the National Road (APBN) network, includes the Binuang - Long Bawan section.
In the 2026 Fiscal Year (TA), the Ministry of PU through the Directorate General of Road Construction allocates a routine road and bridge maintenance program to maintain the condition of the infrastructure to remain functional.
The handling was carried out on the Semamu-Binuang section along 40.40 kilometers with a budget of Rp. 2 billion and the Binuang-Long Bawan section along 43.5 kilometers with a budget of Rp. 2.2 billion.
The program is aimed at ensuring that roads remain in good condition, so that community mobility and logistics distribution in border areas can run smoothly.
In addition to routine maintenance, the PU Ministry also optimizes road handling following the results of an audience with the North Kalimantan Provincial DPRD on July 23, 2026.
In the meeting, it was agreed to optimize the handling of the Lembudud-Long Layu section through the Presidential Instruction Road (IJD) Program for 2026.
The optimization was carried out by adjusting the road width design from six meters to 4.5 meters.
The adjustment allows the length of the road that can be handled to increase from the original two kilometers to 3.3 kilometers.
Not only that, the road preservation package through the IJD Multi Years Contract (MYC) 2025-2026 scheme also experienced an increase in the scope of work. The length of the handling, which was originally 3.8 kilometers, increased to 4.3 kilometers.
The PU Ministry emphasized that the optimization strategy was carried out to maximize the benefits of the budget while expanding the coverage of road infrastructure services for the community, especially those living in remote areas and borders.
Meanwhile, a number of roads in the Krayan area, which is the authority of the North Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov), include the Long Bawan-Lembudud, Lembudud-Long Layu to Long Rungan-Long Padi segments.
Therefore, the synergy between the central government and local governments is considered an important factor to realize the connectivity of the Krayan region as a whole.
The PU Ministry ensures that it will continue to coordinate with the North Kalimantan Provincial Government to accelerate the development of road infrastructure in border areas.
The effort is part of the strategy to equalize national development and strengthen state sovereignty in Indonesia's outermost regions.
