Minister of Human Rights Pigai: Begal Dedi Mulyadi Capture Competition is Dangerous if Serious

BANDUNG - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai hopes that the prize-winning begal arrest competition announced by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is only a joke because it has the potential to endanger civilians.

The Minister of Pigai said that the arrest of street crime perpetrators by the community who did not have tactical training risked triggering physical violence to bloodshed.

"If it's serious, it shouldn't be. But if it's a joke, it's okay. Just joke. But if it's serious, it shouldn't be, it's dangerous," said Pigai, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 29.

He assessed that the transfer of law enforcement functions to civilians without adequate briefings could potentially violate ethics and endanger public safety.

According to Pigai, untrained people have the potential to use violence when arresting perpetrators of crimes. Therefore, he questioned the ethics of rewarding citizens for taking such action.

"If the civilians who are not trained are mukul dong, yes? Bleeding. Is it allowed for us to pay people to beat others on the field? It's unethical. But my guess is he's joking, not serious. Hopefully it's a joke and not serious," he said.

Previously, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi announced a competition with prizes ranging from Rp. 5 million to Rp. 50 million for residents who managed to incapacitate perpetrators of theft, pickpockets, robberies, robbers, and robbers, then handed them over to the police alive.

"I give a competition to all West Java residents. Whoever can paralyze thieves, pickpockets, robbers, robbers, robbers, we have prepared prizes from Rp. 5 million to Rp. 50 million that can paralyze various criminal acts and hand them over to the police alive," said Dedi through his personal Instagram account.

In addition, Dedi said the West Java Provincial Government continued to coordinate with the West Java Police and the Metro Jaya Police to increase night patrols at a number of vulnerable points.

He also asked patrol cars to remain on alert every night with warning lights on and to alert Satpol PP and the Fire Department at strategic locations to anticipate various potential security disruptions.
