Finally Roberto Mancini Appointed as New Coach for the Italian National Team

JAKARTA - Roberto Mancini has officially been appointed as the new coach of the Italian National Team by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to replace the position previously held by Gennaro Gattuso.

"Roberto Mancini is the new coach of the National Team," wrote the official Italian National Team account @Azzurri, Wednesday.

Roberto Mancini's arrival also answered the puzzle of the new coach from Gli Azzuri after previously being rumored to have brought in Andrea Pirlo.

Previously, Andrea Pirlo was the leading name to become the new coach of the Italian national team, but FIGC President Giovanni Malago opposed it and made Technical Director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo resign after only 10 days in office.

In addition to announcing Mancini, the FIGC also announced that the position of Technical Director is now held by the gaek coach Claudio Ranieri, filling the place left by Maldini.

Roberto Mancini is not a stranger to the Italian national team because the former Manchester City coach has been managing the Gli Azzuri since July 1, 2018 to August 13, 2023.

When he was the tactician for the Italian national team, Mancini was able to present the Euro 2020 title by defeating the English national team in the final through a penalty shootout.

However, as reported by Antara, he failed to lead Italy to the 2022 World Cup final after being defeated by North Macedonia with a score of 0-1 in the semi-final of the play-off.

During his five years in charge of the Italian national team, Mancini has played 58 matches in various events and has an average of 2.17 points per match.
