Allegedly Involved in Bribery of Anwar Sadad, East Java DPRD Member Moch Mahrus Detained by the KPK

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained East Java DPRD Member Moch Mahrus alias M Mahrus Ali after undergoing an examination as a suspect in the alleged bribery case for handling East Java Provincial Government grant funds in the 2019-2022 fiscal year. The forced effort was carried out after he was examined as a suspect.

"The detention was carried out for the first 20 days, from July 28 to August 16. The detention was carried out at the KPK Red and White Building Branch Detention Center," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters through his written statement, Tuesday, July 28.

Mahrus has been named a suspect along with three other private parties, namely Achmad Yahya (AY), M Fathullah (MF), and Ra Wahid Ruslan (RWR). The three of them were first detained by the KPK on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

At that time, Mahrus was also scheduled to undergo an examination as a suspect. However, he did not meet the call of the investigators with the excuse of having another agenda that had been scheduled.

After undergoing an examination, Mahrus was seen leaving the KPK Red and White Building lobby at around 17.26 WIB wearing an orange prison vest. He did not give any information to reporters when he was escorted to the prisoner's car.

In this case, Mahrus is suspected of acting as a bribe giver to Member of the Indonesian Parliament Anwar Sadad who was then serving as Deputy Chairman of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.

"The suspect MM is the manager of the pokmas grant fund for the Probolinggo Regency area, which is then suspected to be the party who gave bribes to the suspect AS in the management of the grant fund," said Budi.

"MM is suspected of giving money amounting to Rp. 1.5 billion, gold weighing around 1 kilogram, paying off 1 unit of house in Surabaya, and paying for the establishment of the SPBE business to AS," he continued.

Budi said that Anwar Sadad received the money through another party. Moch Mahrus allegedly gave a bribe to get a grant allocation of Rp83.4 billion.

As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 jo Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. 1.
