BRIN Prepares Water Resilience Technology to Face El Nino

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency is preparing water resilience technology to face the threat of El Nino. The technology is aimed at maintaining water supplies for agriculture and daily needs when drought increases.

BRIN Head Arif Satria said his agency has been asked to complete the development of technology that can provide alternative water sources.

"BRIN has been asked to complete water resilience technology, so that we are able to provide alternative sources of water," said Arif at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 28.

According to Arif, water resilience is a major need when El Nino occurs. Water shortages can directly suppress agricultural production and disrupt community needs.

"Because of El Nino, what is needed is how agriculture remains safe and daily life is also safe," he said.

Arif said BRIN would also develop technology to support the prediction and anticipation of extreme weather. This step was discussed in a meeting with the President and a number of related institutions.

He did not specify the type of technology prepared, its capacity, or its location.

Arif only emphasized that BRIN had prepared a number of technology options that could be used to face the risk of drought.

"We have prepared various technologies for that," he said.
