Ministry of Transportation Strengthens Digital-Based Transportation Safety Culture

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has strengthened a digital-based transportation safety culture to increase compliance, effectiveness of supervision, and the quality of safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation services.

"The importance of a safe driving culture on the road, especially for digital application-based drivers who serve the mobility of the community every day," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi in a confirmed statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The Minister of Transportation emphasized this in a driving safety training held at the Jatijajar Terminal, Depok, West Java, which was held by Grab Indonesia together with the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation and the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) for 1,052 two-wheeled driver partners in five cities.

"Every day, millions of people entrust their journeys to drivers. Everyone expects the same thing, namely a smooth journey and safe arrival at the destination," said the Minister of Transportation.

Therefore, continued the Minister of Transportation, safety should not be seen as merely an obligation to comply with rules, but must become a work culture that is inherent in every driver so that every journey ends safely.

The Minister of Transportation emphasized that every journey of the community must lead to safety, not only on time. According to him, safety must become a daily work habit.

"Safety must be a habit in working, not just a slogan. Traffic discipline, respecting road users, maintaining vehicle conditions, and prioritizing service ethics are responsibilities that cannot be negotiated in order to protect drivers and the community," said Dudy.

He added that strengthening digital transportation must be in line with increasing the quality of human resources and safety culture. Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation supports every initiative of digital transportation operators that encourage the improvement of driver competence and strengthen compliance with rules.

The Minister of Transportation also conveyed that the government together with Grab had agreed on a new policy regarding settlement transactions which will be valid starting August 1, 2026. This means that the process of settling financial transactions (settlement) on the Grab application will be completed on the same day, no longer the next day.

"Hopefully, transactions will be more transparent, faster, and reduce confusion among driver partners," said the Minister of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation assessed that collaboration between the government, service providers, and driver partners is the key to building a professional digital transportation ecosystem. An increasingly orderly and safe ecosystem, he continued, will increase public confidence while benefiting the national economy.

The training with the theme "Safer Roads, Stronger Communities- Safer Roads, Stronger Communities" combines theory and practice for two-wheeled driver partners in Jakarta/Depok, Yogyakarta, Surabaya/Sidoarjo, Medan, and Makassar.

The material provided includes motorcycle inspection, driving equipment, braking techniques, to the ability to predict potential hazards in traffic.

The program is part of strengthening digital-based transportation safety. This is part of efforts to build a safe, orderly, comfortable, and sustainable national transportation system.

"Through this training, the Ministry of Transportation hopes that the culture of safety on the road will be more ingrained," said the Minister of Transportation.
