Palestinian Woman Miscarries After Israeli Forces Block Ambulance at Checkpoint

JAKARTA - A family from the city of Qaryut, south of Nablus, Palestine lost an unborn baby after Israeli forces blocked an ambulance and prevented it from passing through the Awarta military checkpoint, south of the city.

Qaryut ambulance officer, Bashar al-Qaryuti, told WAFA correspondent, Israeli forces hindered the work of the medical team, refusing to allow ambulances to pass through the checkpoint after closing its gates, as quoted (27/7).

They detained the crew and searched a pregnant woman who was bleeding heavily, although her condition was critical.

He added that the Israeli army forced the crew to turn off the ambulance engine, causing the medical support equipment inside the ambulance to stop working. After holding the ambulance for more than 30 minutes, the troops finally allowed it to pass.

Al-Qaryuti said the woman arrived at the hospital, but she had lost her unborn baby. Medical teams managed to save her life.

The incident comes about a week after Sajoud Fuqaha, a 30-year-old man from the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, died of a heart attack after Israeli forces delayed the entry of an ambulance into the town by closing the iron gates at its entrance.
