Destry Damayanti Emphasizes that the Process of Replacing the Governor of BI Starts with the President, Follow the Law
JAKARTA - Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia Destry Damayanti ensures that the process of selecting the definitive BI Governor will follow the mechanism stipulated in the Bank Indonesia Law. Until now, the government has not discussed the name of the successor to Perry Warjiyo.
Destry said Perry's voluntary resignation on July 25, 2026, immediately activated the mechanisms provided for in the law.
"If the Governor of the Bank of Indonesia resigns voluntarily, then it will return to the provisions of the Bank of Indonesia Law," said Destry at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, July 27.
According to Destry, the President will start the filling process by appointing the BI Governor candidate, which will then require the DPR's approval.
Meanwhile, according to the law, the Senior Deputy Governor automatically carries out the duties as the BI Governor's official while the definitive governor is determined.
When asked about the possibility of running for governor of BI, Destry did not give a direct answer.
"I am only carrying out my duties as the Acting Governor in accordance with the provisions of the law," he said.
Destry also referred to the government's previous explanation that Perry resigned through a letter to the President on July 25, 2026 for personal reasons.
He emphasized that the entire process of changing the leadership of BI would follow the provisions in the Bank Indonesia Law.
