Elderly, New Zealand Citizen Suspected of Sexual Violence Not Detained by NTB Police

MATARAM - Investigators from the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police stated that they did not detain the New Zealand citizen with the initials RMS (73) as a suspect in the alleged case of sexual exploitation of local residents due to old age (elderly).

"We did not detain the person because he was an elderly person," said the Director of Women and Children Protection and Eradication of Human Trafficking (PPA-PPO) of the NTB Police, Kombes Ni Made Pujawati in Mataram, Monday, July 27, reported by ANTARA.

Although the threat of a sentence of more than five years in accordance with the application of the rules that are suspected of being violated in relation to the crime of sexual violence, he ensured that RMS was cooperative in this case.

"The person concerned is cooperative, safe," he said.

Regarding the development of the investigation, Pujawati said that investigators had carried out the transfer of files to the investigating prosecutor or stage one. For the results, he ensured that he was still waiting for the results of the prosecutor's investigation.

"This is only stage one, we will wait for the results," he said.

The NTB Police handled this case following the report of three local residents who claimed to be victims. The report was received at the end of January 2026.

The reporter reported this matter to the NTB Police with legal assistance from the Mataram University Legal Aid (BKBH).

The Chairman of the Unram BKBH, Joko Jumadi, who was confirmed about the development of the case, admitted that he had received information about the NTB Police's investigative steps.

"The information was conveyed orally at that time, our follow-up asked when the case was titled, he said after checking some additional witnesses," said Joko on May 19.

The investigator to the Unram BKBH also conveyed the plan to hold a case after the completion of the examination of additional witnesses.

"Yes, so, there should be a determination of suspects in these weeks, according to what the police promised, we will wait. If there is information, I will update," he said.

As a legal companion, Joko said that his party was still routinely communicating with the reporters. Through BKBH Unram, the reporter was given psychological assistance.

"So, from this long-term psychological support, now they have started working again at one of the hotels in the Senggigi area," he said.

Regarding the whereabouts of the reported person, BKBH Unram also carried out monitoring. The person concerned is still in the Sekotong area, West Lombok Regency, his hotel which has the initials SF.

"The perpetrator (RMS) is still in Sekotong," said Joko.

BKBH Unram provides legal assistance based on the complainant's complaint. They came to BKBH Unram and told about the reported act.

Of the three alleged victims, one of them is a man. The three of them were invited to be submerged in the reported sexual fantasy world.

One of the female victims, admitted that she knew the perpetrator for quite some time. In fact, she was invited to get married. Because he considered the invitation to be a serious relationship, the female victim invited the perpetrator to meet with two of his colleagues who were also victims.

BKBH Unram noted that the incident occurred in mid-July and September 2025. The victim admitted that the sexual fantasy had been documented by the reporter. BKBH Unram also stated that he had collected the evidence in the form of a video.
