Malang City Government Bans Sound Horeg During Independence Commemoration

MALANG - The Malang City Government (Pemkot) in East Java. emphasized that every activity commemorating the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in the region, such as cultural parades and carnivals, must not be accompanied by the use of a series of large-sized loudspeaker systems or sound horeg.

Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat said the prohibition on the use of sound horegditujukan so that the tranquility in the community and the sanctity of the anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) are maintained.

"We have banned the use of sound horeg, so it is not allowed," said Wahyu as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 27.

The ban on the use of giant-sized audio systems has been imposed by the Malang City Government since 2025 and the rules are applied thoroughly.

However, he did not deny that there were still some parties who used sound horeg in a number of activities.

As a form of anticipation, Wahyu instructed all sub-district heads to go down to socialize the rules while also educating, so that the community no longer uses sound horeg, especially during the series of events in each region on the anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

"What is clear is that we cannot allow it and must be reasonable," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Malang City Police Pamong Praja Unit (Satpol PP) Heru Mulyono ensured that supervision in each region would be tightened to ensure that the independence day was carried out without interruption and community activities continued to run in accordance with applicable regulations.

He said that every monitoring would be coordinated with various related parties, especially the regional implementing agencies.

Regarding the action, he said that the step was the authority of the police because it had to do with public security and order.

"However, we will continue to carry out monitoring in the field as an effort to detect potential disturbances," said Heru.

He explained that in the initial stage, his party would first educate and give advice to each committee and event organizer.

If it is not heeded, coordination with the local police will be carried out for enforcement.

"If it crosses the region, we report to our friends at the Police, because they have the authority to carry out further communication," he said.
