Kalbar Prosecutor's Office Investigates Officials Related to Alleged Gold Confiscation Case
PONTIANAK - The West Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office examined the internal employees of the Sekadau District Prosecutor's Office regarding information about the alleged confiscation of precious metals that were said to be gold in Sekadau Regency.
"The leadership pays serious attention to information circulating in the media and among the public. To ensure the actual facts, the Kalbar Attorney General's Supervision Team has summoned and conducted an internal investigation of the alleged employees," said Kalbar Attorney General Emilwan Ridwan through Head of the Legal Information Section (Kasi Penkum) I Wayan Gedin Arianta in Pontianak, Monday, July 27, reported by ANTARA.
He said the examination was carried out as a follow-up to information that had developed in the media and the community.
Wayan explained that the examination aimed to obtain a complete and objective picture based on facts and applicable provisions, as well as to ensure that the information developed can be verified professionally.
According to him, internal examination is part of the supervision mechanism in the environment of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Indonesia as a form of institutional accountability and efforts to maintain the integrity of the apparatus.
The Head of the Legal Affairs Office emphasized that the examination process was still ongoing so that all parties were asked to respect the stages and not draw conclusions before all the facts were obtained.
"We prioritize the principle of presumption of innocence. All information will be verified professionally, objectively, and transparently," he said.
Based on information collected by local media, the incident is said to have started when a number of people carrying precious metals suspected of being gold from the upstream area of Melawi Regency heading to Pontianak were stopped in the Sekadau Regency area.
The vehicle that the entourage was riding was stopped by several people who claimed to be from the media, TNI, and the Prosecutor's Office. The entourage was then said to have been taken to the Sekadau District Prosecutor's Office to receive legal instructions.
Information that has developed says that after a brief examination at the Sekadau District Attorney's Office, there was a negotiation between the parties who stopped the vehicle with the owner of the precious metal. In the process, about three pieces of gold bars with a weight of more than 900 grams were said to have been taken, while the remaining precious metals, which were estimated to be around 700 grams, were returned to their owners.
Wayan said that if the results of the internal examination later found violations, the Kalbar Prosecutor's Office would follow up on it in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations and disciplinary provisions in the Prosecutor's Office.
"We are committed to maintaining public confidence through the enforcement of internal discipline that is professional and accountable. The results of the examination will be the basis for management in determining the next steps in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.
The Kalbar Attorney General appealed to the public not to be easily influenced by unverified information and gave the supervision team the opportunity to carry out an independent and professional examination.
The Kalbar Prosecutor's Office emphasized that it would not tolerate any form of deviation if it was proven to have occurred and ensured that all examination processes were carried out professionally, proportionally, and in accordance with the principles of fair enforcement of law.
