Clash on Tambak-Matraman Road Kills Residents, DKI Government Promotes Mediation and Requests Residents Not to Be Provoked 

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has asked residents to refrain after a clash occurred in the Tambak Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta. The DKI Provincial Government encourages the resolution of the issue through mediation, while supporting the legal process being carried out by the police.

The clash that occurred on Sunday, July 26, previously involved two groups of residents. The commotion, which is said to have started from a problem at a warung, then developed into an act of mutual attack. The incident left one person dead and another seriously injured.

The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, said the DKI Provincial Government had asked the regional authorities to immediately coordinate with the security apparatus and local community elements to maintain a conducive situation.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government expresses its deep concern over the events that occurred in the Matraman area," Chico told reporters, Monday, July 27.

According to Chico, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung also instructed the strengthening of communication with community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders so that conflicts do not spread again.

"The Governor has instructed the regional authorities to immediately coordinate with security personnel, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders. The goal is to keep the situation under control, safe, and not repeated. We also encourage dialogue and mediation involving local leaders so that problems can be resolved peacefully," he said.

The DKI Provincial Government, said Chico, handed over the investigation process to law enforcement officials and ensured support for the police's steps in handling the case.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government reminded the public not to complicate matters by spreading information that has not been confirmed as true or taking actions that can trigger further conflicts.

"Governor Pramono Anung appeals to all residents to remain calm and restrain themselves, not to take provocative actions, not to spread unverified information, and not to damage public facilities," he explained.

As previously reported, a group of men with red heads were secured by police officers for being caught carrying sharp weapons in the form of machetes and bows and arrows around the Tambak Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Monday morning, July 27, 2026. One by one, the people from the group were secured and found sharp weapons from their bodies.

Based on the circulating video footage, a man wearing a sweater and a mask was not touched when he was searched directly by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra.

When searched, the police found a sharp weapon of the type parang behind the perpetrator's waist. The parang was then confiscated and the perpetrator was secured by the joint apparatus.

The group of thugs allegedly wanted to retaliate against the residents' settlement in the Matraman Dalam, Pegangsaan, Menteng area, following the death of their colleagues who were mobbed by the masses after making trouble.

Fortunately, the counterattack was successfully thwarted by the joint police who were on duty in the Tambak Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Sunday night until Monday morning.

In addition, before dawn, clashes between mixed masses and the group broke out again in the Pramuka printing area, opposite the Matraman Police, Senen District, Central Jakarta.
