Exploring Indonesian Nature and Culture Stories through a Leisure-themed Fashion Collection

JAKARTA - The world of fashion is not just about the clothes you wear every day. Behind a collection, there is a long creative process. From finding inspiration, choosing colors and materials, to processing experiences and cultures into works that are in line with today's life.

This can be seen in the presentation of the collection entitled Plesir which was presented by Lakon Store in the JF3 Fashion Festival 2026 series. This collection brings together four brands under Lakon Store, namely BLEE, By Roam, Komang Tri Jewelry, and Malina Alba.

Under the theme of exploration and travel, Plesir shows fashion works born from various points of view. Each brand brings its own story by processing Indonesian experiences, culture, memories, and natural wealth into works that are closer to today's life.

Through this approach, fashion is not only a part of appearance, but can also be a medium to introduce culture and concern for the environment. Designers' inspiration comes from various things that are close to life, such as nature, travel, and personal experiences.

One of them can be seen from the Lautan collection presented by Roam. This collection is inspired by the richness of the Indonesian sea which is embodied through soft silhouettes and embroidery details. By Roam also presents casual kebaya which is designed to be used in everyday life.

For Dewi Kumalasari, representative of By Roam, the process of designing a collection is not only about creating attractive clothing, but also telling stories about Indonesian nature and culture through color and detail.

"For the Lautan collection, I was actually inspired by the Indonesian sea as a whole. There is no specific location that is the main source of inspiration. I see the richness of the Indonesian sea as something very broad and close to our lives," said Dewi at Summarecon Mall Kelapa Gading, Jakarta on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Color is one of the important parts in the process of making a collection. Embroidery techniques and material processing are also used to bring natural beauty into fashion.

"In the process of making it, I played a lot with colors and embroidery. The colors I chose were also adjusted to the characters I wanted to build in the collection. From there, I tried to translate the beauty of nature and Indonesian culture through the details in the clothes," he continued.

Inspiration from the sea also carries a message about the importance of protecting the environment. According to Dewi, various environmental issues that occur today can be a reminder for the community to be more concerned about the condition of the sea.

"Environmental issues are also something I often see and read, including from children's books that discuss the environment and marine life. From there, I feel that the issue is important to be conveyed again through works. I want to remind people to take better care of the ocean," he said.

Meanwhile, Malina Alba presents the Sienna collection with a different approach. This collection presents a play of colors, textures, comfortable oversized silhouettes, and three-dimensional details in the form of lily-shaped floral appliqué.

For Siti Zakhanna, Malina Alba's representative, color is an important part of strengthening the character of the collection. These colors are combined with natural elements to make them look modern and easy to wear.

"The challenge is how to use colors that are different from the previous characters, but still make the collection look elegant. We want when people see this collection, they can immediately capture the inspiration that comes from nature," said Siti.

In addition to color, three-dimensional flower details are also an important part of this collection. Lily flowers are chosen to illustrate the beauty of women in various stages of life.

"Lily flowers are one of the elements we use to illustrate that women have many versions. In every process, whether it's in the early stages, developing, or already blooming, women still have their own beauty and attractiveness," he explained.

In the production process, Malina Alba also uses materials that are in accordance with their design character. The color game and detail processing are made more daring to present a different look.

The material from the leftover fabric pieces is also reused. The material is processed into flower details which then become an important part of the collection.

This approach shows that existing materials can still be processed into interesting works. A garment does not always have to use new materials to produce designs that have aesthetic value.

Siti also invites women to be more daring in using colors in their clothing. According to him, color choices can be adjusted to the character and comfort of each.

"I want women not to be too afraid to use color. We often hear that certain colors are considered not suitable for our skin color. In fact, there are many shade or color range options that can be adjusted. So, don't feel insecure or afraid to use color. Just wear the color you like and that makes you feel comfortable," he said.

The message shows that color is part of how a person expresses themselves. There is no need to be afraid of choosing a color just because of assumptions about skin color or body shape. The most important thing is to choose a color that you like and make you comfortable.

Meanwhile, Komang Tri Jewelry brings the natural wealth and culture of Indonesia through jewelry. The Tropicana Indonesia collection explores Indonesian carving culture and art with a more modern touch.

Each piece of jewelry is not only an accessory, but also carries a story about Indonesia's journey, culture, and natural wealth. Various inspirations from different regions and experiences are then realized in the form of jewelry.

A different approach is also seen from BLEE through the PRISM collection. This collection raises the journey of gemstone change as a metaphor for growth and change. Inspired by Maxixe Beryl, Kyanite, and Tsavorite Green, this collection shows that beauty can be formed through a long process.
