Marching Band Competition Helps Form Discipline and Confidence in Children

JAKARTA - Not a few people realize that activities such as marching bands have a much greater learning process than just performing on the field.

Especially for children and adolescents, this performing arts becomes a space to develop creativity, build confidence, as well as train discipline and the ability to work together.

Every marching band performance is the result of long practice. Participants are required to be able to combine musicality, movement accuracy, concentration, and communication between teams to produce a complete performance.

This process makes the marching band one of the extracurricular activities that not only hone artistic ability, but also shape character.

It is this spirit that is seen in the 2026 Marching Band Competition which was held in the Paramount Petals Modern Market area, Sunday, July 26.

The competition, which was attended by participants from elementary school (SD) and junior high school (SMP), was a platform for young people to show their training results and channel their talents through music and performance arts.

Carrying the theme of Harmony in Motion, the competition presents the 10 best teams consisting of five SD category teams and five SMP category teams. Each group presents a performance that combines music games, dynamic formations, choreography, and team cohesion to create an attractive attraction to watch.

Not only as a venue for showing off their abilities, competitions like this also bring together various schools, coaches, parents, and marching band communities in the same space. Their presence is a form of support for the growth of the performing arts ecosystem among students.

In order for the competition to be held sportily, the appearance of the participants is judged by a jury consisting of marching band practitioners, music academics, and experienced coaches. The assessment includes various aspects, ranging from musical quality, visuals, performance effects, field commander appearance, color guard, percussion, to overall appearance.

Paramount Land Sales & Marketing Director, Ferry John Sihombing, said that activities like this are expected not only to be entertainment, but also to strengthen relations between communities.

"In addition to being a creative outlet for children, the 2026 Marching Band Competition is also an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between schools, marching band communities, and the wider community in a festive, enthusiastic, and full of sportsmanship competition atmosphere. We invite the public to come and feel the atmosphere of togetherness while enjoying the atmosphere and facilities of Paramount Petals," he explained.

More than just competing for the title of champion, the marching band competition is a reminder that art can be an effective learning medium for young generations.

Through every note played and every step coordinated, children can learn to appreciate the process, manage responsibilities, and understand the importance of collaboration to achieve a common goal. Creative spaces such as marching band performances are an opportunity for children to express themselves directly.
