Indonesian National Volleyball Team Has a Chance to the Semifinal of the 2026 Asian Games

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian Men's Volleyball National Team, Reidel Toiran, assessed that his squad's chances of reaching the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Games are very open.

The Cuban tactician said that they would use the remaining time to prepare as much as possible so that they could meet his expectations.

"If this team can train to the maximum, then I think we can reach the semifinals. Even the chance to reach the final is still there, depending on who we meet later," said Toiran as reported by Antara.

The coach, born on October 31, 1984, just led his team to finish in third place in the second round of the 2026 SEA V Cup event which took place at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Rawamangun, East Jakarta.

Indonesia failed to reach the final round at home after losing to Vietnam in the semifinals. Vietnam then managed to come out as champions after defeating Thailand in the final round.

Previously, the Garuda Squad finished as runners-up in the first round held in the Philippines and emerged as champions at the 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Cup in India by defeating South Korea in the final.

Toiran said that the Garuda Squad already has the ability to compete with strong countries in Asia even though the level is not at the level of Japan and Iran.

"If China, I think we still have a chance. India can also be faced. However, other teams are also strong," he said.

Toiran will select 22 players who will be reduced to 12 to be brought to the 2026 Asian Games which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

The composition of the players who have been brought to the 2026 AVC Men's Volleyball Cup and the 2026 SEA V Cup will likely be maintained in the long list of players who will participate in the selection for the four-year event.
