Pasuruan Accident Kills Four People

PASURUAN - Four people died and six others were injured in a series of accidents involving a truck carrying paper rolls on the Malang-Surabaya Highway, Pasuruan Regency, East Java.

Head of the Pasuruan Police Traffic Unit, AKP Jauhar Rizqullah Sumirat, said the accident occurred at around 05.45 WIB when the truck, which was traveling from Malang to Surabaya, allegedly lost control.

"The driver allegedly could not control the speed (of the vehicle) and an accident occurred," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 27.

According to him, the truck first hit the vehicle in front of it, then crossed the median of the road and entered the opposite lane until it hit the water tank car and two motorcycles.

As a result of the incident, three people died at the scene. The truck then crossed the median of the road, hitting a number of residents' houses and a motorcycle before finally stopping.

Jauhar said the truck driver was stuck for several hours and died after being evacuated to Pusdik Sabhara Porong Hospital, Sidoarjo, so that the number of deaths increased to four people.

In addition to the four victims who died, six other people were injured and have received medical treatment.

The police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident by collecting witness statements and evidence.

The crime scene will be carried out using the "scientific crime investigation" approach after the location is declared conducive.

During the evacuation process, officers together with PLN and BPBD secured the location and arranged traffic.

Vehicle traffic from Malang to Surabaya was diverted through the toll road and is now gradually normal after the evacuation process is complete.

At the location, the evacuation process of the truck was carried out while the rolls of paper that were overturned and detached from the truck body were still at the scene, while traffic flow around the scene gradually became normal after a severe traffic jam due to the closure of one lane for evacuation.
