Prabowo Immediately Submit BI Governor Candidate to Replace Perry Warjiyo to the DPR

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto will propose a candidate for the governor of the Bank Indonesia (BI) to replace Perry Warjiyo to the House of Representatives (DPR). While waiting for the parliamentary process, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti will carry out the duties as the interim governor of BI.

The process of filling the post of BI governor refers to Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (UU P2SK). Based on the rules, the president proposes candidates for members of the BI Board of Governors to the DPR to undergo a fit and proper test in Commission XI of the DPR before obtaining approval.

Destry Damayanti said the mechanism was regulated in Articles 40 and 42 of the Bank Indonesia Law. Article 40 regulates the requirements for prospective members of the Board of Governors, while Article 42 regulates the process of proposal to appointment.

"We follow the applicable rules and laws. We use Article 40, which contains related to the requirements as members of the Board of Governors of the Bank of Indonesia. Then Article 42 is the next mechanism, in which the candidate members of the Board of Governors will be proposed and appointed by the president with the consent of the DPR," said Destry in a press conference at the BI office, Jakarta, Monday, July 27.

While waiting for the process to be completed, Destry will carry out his duties as acting governor of the BI in accordance with Article 50 paragraph (2) of the Bank Indonesia Law until the definitive governor is determined.

Previously, the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said President Prabowo Subianto had received Perry Warjiyo's resignation letter as BI governor on Sunday, July 26.

According to Prasetyo, the government will immediately complete the administrative process by issuing a presidential decree (keppres) on the honorable dismissal of Perry Warjiyo.

"Administratively today we will follow up on the resignation letter because according to the mechanism, a presidential decision will be issued regarding his dismissal respectfully from his position as governor of Bank Indonesia," said Prasetyo.
