Group of Men with Red Headbands Arrested After Clash in Matraman

A group of men with red heads were secured by police officers for being caught carrying sharp weapons of machetes and bows and arrows around the Tambak Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Monday morning, July 27, 2026.

One by one, the people from the group were secured and sharp weapons were found from their bodies.

Based on the circulating video footage, a man wearing a sweater and a mask was not touched when he was searched directly by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra.

When searched, the police found a sharp weapon of the type parang behind the perpetrator's waist. The parang was then confiscated and the perpetrator was secured by the joint apparatus.

A group of men carrying sharp weapons were known to wear a special feature of their group.

The group of thugs allegedly wanted to retaliate against the residents' settlement in the Matraman Dalam, Pegangsaan, Menteng area, following the death of their colleagues who were mobbed by the masses after making trouble.

Fortunately, the counterattack was successfully thwarted by the joint police who were on duty in the Tambak Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Sunday night until Monday morning.

"Currently, there is one company from the Polda unit, Brimob and TNI units that we place or position around Jalan Matraman Dalam," said the Head of the Central Jakarta Police, Kombes Reynold Elisa Partomuan Hutagalung in his statement.

Besides that, before dawn, clashes between the mixed mass and the group broke out again in the Pramuka printing area, opposite the Matraman Police, Senen District, Central Jakarta.

The crowd continued to groan and closed 4 roads near the Matraman intersection flyover. Meanwhile, the group of thugs was in a vacant lot next to the gas station.

The incident of the subsequent clash was recorded by a number of amateur videos. It was seen as a mutual attack with stone throwing. The crowd also rushed to the fence of the vacant land which was suspected to be the hiding place of the group of thugs.
