Presidential Decree on the Dismissal of Perry Warjiyo Will Soon Be Issued, BI is Guaranteed to Continue to Run

JAKARTA - The government will soon issue a presidential decree to honorably dismiss Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia. The process was carried out after the President received Perry's resignation letter on Sunday (26/7/2026).

The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the resignation would be followed up administratively in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law.

"Today we will follow up. According to the mechanism, a presidential decision will be issued regarding his honorable dismissal from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia," said Prasetyo at the BI Office, Jakarta, Monday (27/7/2026).

Perry has led BI for about seven years. The President, said Prasetyo, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Perry's service during his tenure.

The resignation did not make the position of BI leadership vacant. According to regulations, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti immediately carried out his duties as a temporary governor.

Destry will hold all the authority of the BI Governor until the next replacement process is carried out in accordance with laws and regulations.

Prasetyo emphasized that the central bank's functions would continue to run in the midst of the change. BI still holds the mandate to maintain monetary, while the government through the Ministry of Finance carries out fiscal policy.

"We continue to carry out our duties in accordance with the authority given by law. BI has a role in maintaining monetary, while the Ministry of Finance carries out the function of maintaining fiscal with close coordination," he said.

The press conference was also attended by Deputy Governor of BI Aida S. Budiman, Filianingsih Hendarta, Ricky Perdana Gozali, and Thomas A. Muliatna Djiwandono.
