Proklamasi House Will Be Rebuilt, Land Status Still Coordinated

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture is preparing to reconstruct the Proclamation House which was dismantled in the 1960s. However, the construction plan is still waiting for coordination regarding the status of land in the Proclamation Park area, Menteng, Jakarta.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said that the discussion on land ownership would involve the Ministry of State Secretariat and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Coordination is part of the preparation for the construction of a replica of the house where the Proclamation of Independence was read on August 17, 1945.

Fadli reviewed the Proklamasi Park, Saturday (25/7/2026). The house that will be reconstructed is designed to be a living museum and directly faces the Soekarno-Hatta Proclamation Monument and the Lightning Monument.

The Ministry of Culture wants to unite the three buildings in one historical and educational area.

"We have asked architects, historians, archaeologists, and also figures who have knowledge about the Proclamation House. Discussions have been carried out and hopefully the construction of a replica of the Proclamation House can be realized soon," said Fadli.

According to Fadli, the reconstruction is aimed at restoring the physical shape of the Proclamation House as the location for reading the independence script. The building will later be used as a Proclamation Museum.

In the initial draft, the position of the house was made facing the Proclamation Monument. The placement is intended to provide a clear storyline for visitors.

The visit route will also be arranged based on the order of events. Visitors are directed from the explanation of the chronology, the reading room of the Proclamation, to the monument that marks the event.

The Ministry of Culture involved architects, historians, archaeologists, and a number of parties who knew the history of the Proclamation House in the preparation of the plan. The reconstruction is intended as a cultural, historical, and educational center, especially for the younger generation.

When reviewing, Fadli was accompanied by the Director General of Cultural and Traditional Protection Restu Gunawan, Head of Museum and Cultural Heritage Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, and Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Cultural Preservation Agency Desse Yussubrasta.
