SEA V Cup 2026: Vietnam defeated, Indonesia failed to reach the final

JAKARTA - The journey of the Indonesian men's national volleyball team (Timnas) in the second round of the 2026 SEA V Cup stalled in the semifinals. The Garuda team failed to reach the final round of the competition because they had to admit the superiority of Vietnam.

The Indonesian men's volleyball national team's desire to be able to climb to the highest podium must be buried deep after they surprisingly surrendered 1-3 (25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 18-25) to the opponent team at the Jakarta International Velodrome Rawamangun, East Jakarta on Saturday, July 25.

Men's national volleyball coach Reidel Toiran admitted that his children were indeed unable to bring out their best abilities in the match. He assessed that physical fitness was one of the weak points of Farhan Halim and his friends because of the length of the tournament since they appeared in the 2026 AVC Cup in India.

"That's not an excuse. We have to take responsibility. We have to really look at what we did wrong [where]. Because Indonesia's potential is there, but in a situation like this we can't. So, we have to learn to move forward," he said in a press conference after the match.

Vietnam actually fell behind first in this match. However, they finally managed to smoothly advance to the final match after turning the tide with a very dominant performance in front of Indonesian supporters.

The defeat experienced by the Indonesian men's volleyball team made manager Adang Ginanjar speak up. The man born on July 19, 1967 hopes that the players will quickly forget the minor results in the semifinals and can rise to fight for third place.

"We must not be discouraged because tomorrow there is still a match for third place. I have conveyed to the players to remain enthusiastic about tomorrow's match," he said.

The Indonesian men's volleyball team will face Cambodia in the battle for third place on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Both teams certainly want to win because the match has been counted for the FIVB ranking.

Cambodia certainly cannot be taken lightly by Indonesia because they are the champions of the first round which took place in the Philippines on July 15-19. At that time they managed to climb to the highest podium after defeating the Garuda team 3-2 in the final match.

However, their record is also not good against Farhan Halim and his friends. From the two clashes with Indonesia in the group stage, they have always recorded a 0-3 defeat.
