Xpeng Withdraws More Than 33 Thousand Units of X9 Due to Air Suspension Problems

JAKARTA - Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng announced a recall of tens of thousands of units of its flagship MPV, the X9. This is after a potential problem was found in the air suspension system.

Launching from Carnewschina, Saturday, July 25, the move has been submitted to the State Administration for Market Regulation of China (SAMR). Based on the recall notice numbered S2026M0082V, as many as 33,473 units of Xpeng X9 produced in the period from August 8, 2023 to August 11, 2025 will be affected.

The recall program is scheduled to take effect on August 28, 2026. The problem found is related to variations in the production process that affect the air tightness of the front air spring.

In the case of long-term use in environments with high temperatures and humidity levels, these components have the potential to leak air gradually. This condition will generally trigger warning indicator lights and notifications on the instrument panel.

However, in more serious situations, air leaks can affect the stability and control of the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of safety while driving. As a solution, Zhaoqing Xpeng New Energy Investment Co., Ltd. will replace the front air spring sliding pillar assembly with the latest version components on all affected vehicles free of charge.

Meanwhile, vehicles that have previously been equipped with the latest components do not need to undergo the replacement process again. This recall decision came after many complaints from vehicle owners, especially in the Chongqing region.

When the heat wave hit the area, a number of users reported that the vehicle chassis suddenly fell on one side or even the entire part while the car was moving. Previously, Xpeng's customer service had explained that some of the warnings were related to the "thermal protection" mode.

The company said that adjusting the vehicle's height too often during extreme temperatures could cause the compressor to overheat. However, through this official recall, Xpeng admitted that there was a defect in the hardware component related to air tightness, not solely due to the thermal protection system.

This is also the second major recall action carried out by Xpeng in less than a year. In September last year, the company had recalled 47,490 units of the P7+ following the discovery of a problem with the power steering system motor.
