KW's daughter is more confident after returning to the 2026 China Open quarterfinals

JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles badminton player Putri Kusuma Wardani admitted that she was much more confident after she was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2026 China Open due to losing to Tomoka Miyazaki.

The 24-year-old athlete returned from the BWF Super 1000 level tournament after he lost the three-game match 21-16, 11-21, 9-21 to the Japanese representative on Friday, July 24, 2026, WIB night.

Putri said that she was still satisfied with the results obtained in the last two weeks because she was able to beat and give a fierce resistance to the more favored players.

"I have learned a lot from these two weeks. Even though I am not satisfied with his performance here, last week was able to beat Wang Zhiyi and almost winning from Akane [Yamaguchi] enough to grow more confidence," said the princess after the match.

Before appearing at the China Open, the Tangerang-born badminton player competed in the Japan Open last week. While playing in the Sakura Country, he was able to reach the semifinals and was stopped by the host representative Akane Yamaguchi.

Even though she eventually lost, Putri was able to put up a fierce fight for three games. Akane is one of the four top five badminton players currently who he has never lost in his career. The other three names are An Se Young, Han Yue, and Chen Yufei.

Before meeting Akane, he was even able to pick up a victory over world number two shuttler Wang Zhiyi from China, who he had never lost in the previous seven clashes.

"I have to learn again to keep my mind focused so that it remains in good condition not only in one or two matches, not only one tournament but in two or three consecutive tournaments," said Putri.

Putri was eliminated in the 2026 China Open quarterfinal along with men's singles Jonatan Christie and women's doubles Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum.

The only Indonesian representative who managed to reach the semifinals in China was the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. The second seeded pair will then meet the host's fourth seed Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang.
