PHR Menggala South-21 Well Discharges 2,035 BOPD

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) managed to record a positive performance through the drilling of the Menggala South-21 infill well in the Rokan Working Area (WK).

General Manager of the Rokan Zone, Andre Wijanarko, said that based on the results of the initial test, the well showed production potential of 2,035 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) with a water cut of 0 percent, indicating excellent oil production quality.

"This success is one of the important achievements in PHR's efforts to maintain and increase national oil production through the development of productive fields in the Rokan Block," he said, quoted on Saturday, July 25.

Andre said, Sumur Menggala South-21 is a J-type directional infill well targeting the Menggala Formation reservoir at a depth of around 4,146 feet.

During the drilling, the team faced a number of technical challenges, including long open hole sections, potential shale sloughing, loss of circulation, fault crossing, and the risk of differential sticking in the production interval.

"However, through careful planning, the implementation of proper drilling practices, and cross-functional collaboration, the work can be completed safely and reliably," he continued.

He added that the success of the Menggala South-21 Well is a reflection of the company's commitment to continue to deliver optimal oil and gas production through superior, safe, and efficient operations.

"The success of the Menggala South-21 well shows that the development of existing fields in the Rokan Block still has excellent potential," said Andre.

For information, the drilling of the Menggala South-21 Well began in June 2026 and was successfully completed on July 19, 2026. In addition to producing high production potential, the implementation of this project also recorded good operational performance with the completion of work 9 percent faster than planned and generating a significant 44 percent cost efficiency. The drilling operation using the GW-337 Rig with a capacity of 550 HP Electric Rig also took place without any work safety incidents.

"This success strengthens optimism about the potential for further development in the Menggala area and its surroundings. PHR will continue to evaluate the subsurface and optimize field development to make a sustainable contribution to national energy security," he said.
