Caught in Debt, a Man in Cengkareng Makes a False Report of a Begal Victim

JAKARTA - A man with the initials AC admitted that he was a victim of extortion on Jalan Kampung Malang, West Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

In his report, AC admitted that he was extorted by 2 perpetrators who took a bag containing cash and a laptop with a total loss of Rp. 27.3 million.

In addition, AC also admitted that he had been stabbed in the left arm due to resistance against the mugger. After receiving the report, members of the West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit immediately conducted an investigation.

After being investigated, it turned out that the robbery incident experienced by AC was a false report. The police confirmed that the incident never happened and the report made by the reporter was a false report.

This was revealed after the police checked the air conditioner, collected evidence, and conducted an in-depth investigation of all the information provided.

"It turns out that the incident is not true. The victim reported to the police that he was kidnapped, but after we investigated, the incident turned out to be a fabricated story," he told reporters, Friday, July 24, 2026.

He explained that AC deliberately made a false report so that he could make a claim to the financing company for the laptop which was still in the installment period.

"The laptop is worth around Rp. 27.3 million and has only been paid for about five installments," he said.

Based on the police report that he was a victim of begal, the reporter intends to file a claim with the financing party so that the laptop installment can be stopped.

During the examination, the reporter finally admitted that he had fabricated the entire incident because he was under economic pressure and had a debt burden.

According to the investigator, the main motive was to obtain insurance claims so that they were no longer burdened by laptop installments.

Investigators then verified the existence of the laptop that was reported missing. The result, the laptop was never confiscated, but was in a service center in Mangga Dua area to undergo repair.

This fact was strengthened by the service receipt document and proof of purchase which was successfully verified by the investigators.

Not only that, the stab wound which was previously claimed to be the result of the perpetrator's actions was also confirmed to be a wound made by the reporter himself using scissors while in the bathroom of his house.

As a form of accountability for his actions, the reporter then went to the West Jakarta Metro Police to make a video of clarification and withdraw the police report that had previously been made.

"I apologize for the false report I made regarding my belongings that I reported being robbed or robbed. My motive for doing this was to claim insurance and stop paying for the laptop due to economic difficulties," said AC.
