PBSI hopes badminton will contribute to gold at the 2026 Asian Games

JAKARTA - The Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) hopes that the badminton sport (cabor) can contribute gold medals in the 2026 Asian Games sports festival which will take place in Japan.

PP PBSI Secretary General Ricky Soebagdja said that his party would maximize the remaining time to prepare the team for the four-year sports festival.

"With the remaining time, of course we hope that the Asian Games team can give their best later. Hopefully badminton will contribute gold medals," said Ricky.

Ricky emphasized that the names that have been included in the entry by name list so far are still maintained. He hopes that there will be no obstacles that will make the player line-up change.

He also did not rule out the possibility of players from outside the PBSI Pelatnas such as Jonatan Christie and the men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani entering the Indonesian team.

"For sure, we choose the best. It is also possible that in some sectors we need it, like yesterday in the Thomas Cup, there are also people from outside Pelatnas. It is not impossible, but it is the best," he said.

The 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, will take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026. Badminton is one of Indonesia's mainstay sports to be able to speak a lot at the multi-branch sports party.

In the previous edition of the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022 (held in 2023), the badminton event failed completely. They returned empty-handed without bringing a single medal.
