Grief in Yahukimo: Three Civilians Become Victims of Violence, Koops TNI Habema Strengthens

YAHUKIMO - Grief once again enveloped the land of Papua. Three civilians were reported dead in a violent act allegedly carried out by the OPM armed group led by Kopitua Heluka (Danops Kodap Yahukimo) around Jalan Trans Papua, Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Monday (20/7/2026).

Based on the initial information received, as well as the statement published by the Management of the Central Headquarters of KOMNAS TPNPB, the group claimed responsibility for the shooting that resulted in the death of three civilians. The victims consisted of a married couple, Kumis Kogoya and his wife, and a woman from the Unaukam Tribe. Until now, the complete identity and chronology of the incident are still in the process of being deepened by the authorities.

Koops TNI Habema conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The loss of civilians due to acts of violence is a humanitarian tragedy that cannot be justified under any circumstances. Every Papuan community has the right to live in peace, work, raise a family, and build a future without fear.

Following up on the incident, the Koops TNI Habema continues to coordinate with related authorities to conduct investigations, prosecutions, and law enforcement against the perpetrators in accordance with applicable regulations. This step is taken to provide protection to the community while preventing the recurrence of violent acts that threaten the safety of residents.

Head of Information Koops TNI Habema, Lt. Col. Inf. M. Wirya Arthadiguna, emphasized that every action of the security apparatus is always oriented towards protecting the community and enforcing the law professionally.

"We express our deepest condolences to the victims' families. No one should lose their lives as a result of acts of violence. Koops TNI Habema will continue to work selectively, measured, professionally, and according to law to provide a sense of security for the community and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions," he said.

Koops TNI Habema believes that security is the foundation for people's lives. When the situation is safe, children can go to school, health services can run, economic activity grows again, and the community can build a future with hope.
