DKI relies on Creative Financing to accelerate the transformation of Bantargebang towards Zero Open Dumping 

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has begun to rely on a creative financing scheme to accelerate the transformation of the Bantargebang TPST towards a controlled landfill system and the cessation of open dumping practices. This alternative financing scheme is prepared to complement funding from the APBD while opening up room for collaboration with the business world.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service, Dudi Gardesi Asikin, said that changes to the waste management system in Bantargebang require financing support that is not only based on the APBD. Because, the transformation also requires the construction of infrastructure to the implementation of technology.

"The transformation of TPST Bantargebang is still supported through the APBD and other sources of financing. Creative financing is one of the supporting schemes to expand collaboration and accelerate the provision of the necessary facilities," said Dudi in his statement, Friday, July 24.

According to Dudi, collaboration with the private sector has begun to be realized through the provision of cover materials and geomembranes needed in the implementation of controlled landfills. These materials serve to cover the waste pile so that its management becomes more controlled.

The use of covering materials is also considered important to reduce odors, limit the entry of rainwater into the waste pile, and suppress the formation of stagnant water that has the potential to pollute the environment.

In the initial phase of the collaboration, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa and PT Pertamina Retail provided support in the form of providing covering material and geomembranes to support the transformation of TPST Bantargebang.

Dudi assessed that the involvement of the business world was one step to accelerate the change in the waste management system without reducing the government's responsibility in financing the project.

"We appreciate the companies that have contributed. We also invite other corporations to be involved in the transformation of TPST Bantargebang through CSR programs, infrastructure support, the application of technology, and other forms of collaboration," he said.

He emphasized that collaboration with the business world only strengthens the program which is still financed through the APBD and other legitimate sources of financing.

"The transformation of TPST Bantargebang requires joint work. The wider the collaboration that is built, the greater the support to realize safer, modern, and environmentally friendly waste management," said Dudi.
