Duet of Father-Son in Denpasar Steals 12 Motorcycles Ends in Arrest by Police

DENPASAR - The West Denpasar Police revealed a case of theft of 12 motorcycles involving two perpetrators with initials IGNA (44) and IGNKP (25) who are father and son.

West Denpasar Police Chief Kompol Ni Wayan Adnyani Prabawati said the arrest of the two perpetrators was carried out after the police received a report from the victim with the initials J (43).

The victim reported that the Yamaha NMAX DK 1201 AFM motorcycle was lost in the West Teuku Umar area, West Denpasar, on Monday (20/7).

"The victim received information via WhatsApp from his motorcycle tenant that the vehicle parked in the hotel's basement was missing. After checking together, the vehicle was indeed not at the location," said the Police Chief, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 24.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a loss of around IDR 30 million and reported it to the West Denpasar Police.

Receiving the report, the West Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, which was headed by Criminal Investigation Unit Iptu Ekky Nurwenda Putra, immediately visited the scene to conduct an investigation of the crime scene, examined CCTV footage, collected evidence, and asked for information from a number of witnesses.

From the results of the investigation, said Adnyani, the identity of the two perpetrators was successfully bagged.

The police then moved and secured IGNA and IGNKP at a house on Jalan Nangka Utara, North Denpasar.

During interrogation, the two suspects admitted to stealing the victim's motorcycle.

In addition, they also admitted to having stolen motorbikes in 12 different locations.

A total of seven crime scenes were in the jurisdiction of the West Denpasar Police, while the other five crime scenes were outside the West Denpasar area, namely Jalan Buluh Indah, Jalan Gatot Subroto Timur, and three locations in Dalung, Badung Regency.

The father and son, who are from Banjar Anyar, Kediri District, Tabanan, admitted that all the stolen motorbikes were sold to various areas.

Some are marketed through marketplaces with a cash on delivery (COD) system, while some units are sold to Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT).

The selling price of each motorcycle ranges from Rp10 million to Rp15 million.

"During the examination, the two suspects admitted that the money from the sale was used for daily living expenses and online gambling," said the former head of the Pelabuhan Benoa Police.

The police chief explained that the modus operandi used was quite simple. The perpetrator is looking for a motorcycle that is parked without locking the handlebars.

When in action, the son served as an executor who took the motorcycle, while his father pushed the stolen motorcycle using his feet or by "getek" using another motorcycle until it was successfully taken away.

"They admitted that they had committed this theft for about the last three months. Their target is a motorcycle that is not locked at the handlebars so that it is easier to carry. The child plays the role of the executor, while his father helps push the stolen motorcycle," he said.

From the disclosure of the case, the police have only managed to secure two units of motorcycles as evidence, namely one unit of the black Yamaha NMAX Neo and one unit of the black doff Yamaha NMAX New. Meanwhile, the other stolen vehicles are still in the process of being traced.

The police chief revealed that investigators were still conducting further development and examination of the two perpetrators to trace the whereabouts of other evidence and parties suspected of being involved in the sale of stolen vehicles.

"For their actions, our two suspects were caught with Article 479 on the crime of theft with a threat of imprisonment for a maximum of nine years," said the West Denpasar Police Chief.
