NTT Police Destroy Three Pipe Bombs After Adonara Conflict

KUPANG - The Detachment Gegana Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom) of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police's Brimob Unit destroyed three improvised pipe bombs found by residents after a social conflict in East Adonara District, East Flores Regency.

East Flores Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Octorio Putra said the destruction was carried out to ensure that there was no more potential danger from explosives found by residents after the conflict between residents of Bele Village, Waiburak Village, and Lewonara Village, Narasaosina Village, East Adonara District.

"We appreciate the concern of the public who immediately reported the discovery of suspicious objects to the police. This step is very important so that the Jibom Team can immediately carry out sterilization, security, and destruction in accordance with the applicable operational standards," he said as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 24.

He explained that the first pipe bomb was found by a resident while picking sour fruit around the garbage disposal site in Bele Village. The findings were then reported to the officers so that the Jibom Team immediately sterilized and evacuated the object which was confirmed to be a homemade pipe bomb.

Not long after, residents again found two other improvised pipe bombs around the yard of the head of the Waiburak Village. The Jibom team immediately secured the two bombs before all the evidence was taken to the disposal site to be destroyed.

Based on the results of the identification of the Jibom Team, the three pieces of evidence are pipe bombs with low explosive power. However, the explosives still have the potential to be dangerous if they experience impact, pressure, or other triggers.

"Although the power of the explosion is relatively low, the object is still dangerous for public safety. Therefore, we decided to dispose of it according to SOP until all the bombs were neutralized and no longer had the potential to be dangerous," said AKBP Adhitya.
