9 Years in Prison, the Husband of an ASN Teacher Abusing an Elementary School Student in Tanjungbalai is a Suspect

TANJUNGBALAI - Police have detained A (37), the husband of an ASN teacher in Tanjungbalai with the initials D, after being named a suspect in an alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old elementary school student. The perpetrator even had to be evacuated by officers to avoid the wrath of the crowd that was ignited by emotions.

A case of alleged sexual abuse of a primary school student in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra, has caught the public's attention after a teacher with the status of civil servant with the initials D was suspected of being involved in the case with her husband, A (37).

The tension peaked on Thursday, July 23, in the early hours, when hundreds of residents came to D's house on Jalan Burhanuddin, Perjuangan Village, Teluk Nibung District. This action was triggered by the residents' disappointment over the report of the case, which was considered slow to be handled, while D and her husband were still seen as usual, including D who was said to still be teaching at school.

The police intervened to evacuate the couple to prevent self-judgment.

According to residents, the case was first smelled after the victim with the initials ARM (12) was absent from school for about 2 weeks, including during the exam period. Suspicion arose because of the victim's changed attitude, so the family took him to be medically examined. From the examination, the family learned that the child had experienced sexual violence.

The findings prompted the family to report to the Tanjungbalai Police on Monday (4/5/2026), with Police Report No. LP/B/132/V/2026/SPKT/Polres Tanjungbalai. However, according to residents and local village officials, the report did not show any significant progress for about two months, which then triggered the anger of residents.

Head of Public Relations of Tanjungbalai Police, Ipda Muhammad Ruslan, explained that the alleged criminal act of obscenity occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, in the area of Jalan Yos Sudarso, Teluk Nibung District, around 13.00 WIB. The alleged perpetrator is said to have approached the victim by borrowing a mobile phone.

"The alleged perpetrator persuaded the victim who was still sitting on the elementary school (SD) bench by lending a cellphone. When the victim was distracted, the perpetrator carried out his depraved act by opening the victim's clothes and committing sexual assault," said Ruslan, Thursday, July 23 evening.

Ruslan emphasized that the presence of officers at the location of the suspected perpetrator's house was aimed at evacuating and securing the two from the potential for anarchist actions by residents.

"Currently, the Tanjungbalai Police investigators are continuing to work marathons to fully investigate the case. Meanwhile, the wife of the suspect is still undergoing the examination and witness stage," said Ruslan.

The police have now detained suspect A and charged him with Article 415 letter b juncto Article 417 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison. Meanwhile, D as the suspect's wife is still undergoing a series of examinations as a witness regarding his alleged involvement in this case.

Investigators also examined a number of witnesses, including the victim's family, the suspect's family, and a psychology expert to investigate the victim's condition.

Tanjungbalai Police appealed to the public to remain calm and leave the law enforcement process entirely to the authorities.
