Tehran Threatens Britain Consequences of Allowing Air Base for Attacks on Iran

JAKARTA - Iran warned Britain of the consequences of its decision to allow the United States to use a British air base to launch an attack on Iranian territory.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that any country involved in a military aggression against Iran must be held responsible for the consequences of its decision.

"Iran is fully committed to continue to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interests, and security in the face of aggression. Any country that in any way becomes a party to a military aggression against Iran will be responsible for the consequences of its decision," the ministry said in a statement. reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, July 23.

Iran also condemned the British government's decision to allow its air bases to be used by US military aircraft.

According to Tehran, the move is in contravention of the United Nations Charter (UN).

Previously, Bloomberg on Tuesday, July 21, reported that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham had allowed the United States to continue to use British air bases to launch an attack that was described as a "defensive" attack on Iran.

Iran and the United States previously signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 that regulates the cessation of the conflict that began on February 28. However, since July 8, US forces have launched several waves of attacks on Iran.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attack was a response to Iran's actions against merchant ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran launched an attack on US military bases in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump then declared that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was no longer in effect.
