Proklamasi House to be Rebuilt Near Petir Monument, Original Foundation is Being Searched for

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture is preparing the revitalization of the Proclamation House Area in Jakarta. One of the plans discussed is to rebuild a replica of the house where the Proclamation of Independence was read on August 17, 1945.

The plan was discussed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon together with architect Yori Antar at the Ministry of Culture's office, Jakarta, Thursday, July 23.

Fadli said the government needed to conduct archaeological excavations to find possible remnants of the original building's structure and foundation. If found, the part will be preserved and included in the presentation of the history of the area.

Yori Antar proposed that a replica of the main building of the Proclamation House be relocated to its original position, near the Lightning Monument.

The arrangement of the area will also connect a number of historical markers around the location. Among them are the Satoe Tahoen Republic of Indonesia Memorial Monument, Lightning Monument, Pola Building, and the Proclaimer Soekarno-Hatta Monument.

The area is designed to be a series of historical spaces, not a collection of monuments that stand alone.

The Proclamation House is also planned to bring back the atmosphere of reading the independence text. The elements prepared include a replica of the building, a seating arrangement, and visual documentation.

The goal is that visitors not only see the historical location, but also understand how the events of August 17, 1945 took place.

Regarding this, the Ministry of Culture will coordinate with the Ministry of State Secretariat and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government regarding the status of land ownership. A study of building materials, including a search for the type of tile that matches the original building, will also be carried out so that the reconstruction remains historically accurate.
