The Victim Died of the Drowning of the KM Nurul Salsa Increased to 4 People
JAKARTA - The KM Nurul Salsa death toll increased to four after the Joint SAR Team evacuated one body found to the northeast of Matallang Island, Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency, South Sulawesi.
"This afternoon, the RIB Team of the Pacitan SAR was able to evacuate one male corpse on the northeast side of Matallang Island, about 100 meters from the shore. The body has been evacuated, then taken to the Pacitan SAR for further handling," said Head of Operations and Standby Section of the Makassar Basarnas Office, Andi Sultan, Thursday, July 23, reported by ANTARA.
So far, said the Sultan, the Joint SAR Team continues to coordinate with all related elements regarding the location of the handover of the body for the process of identification and it has not been determined whether the body will be taken directly to Makassar or evacuated first to the Benteng Post in the Kepulan Selayar Regency.
"The decision will be determined based on the results of coordination in the field by considering the operational aspects and the process of identifying victims," he said.
With the discovery, the Joint SAR Team hopes that the identification process can be carried out immediately so that the identity of the victim can be confirmed and conveyed to the family.
Meanwhile, the search operation for other victims will continue according to the operation plan by optimizing the search in the Sabalana Islands and surrounding areas.
Based on the latest developments, Basarnas updated the data on the victims of the KM Nurul Salsa which sank in the Selayar waters from the original 78 people to 76 people, with details of 58 people survived, four people died and 15 people are still being searched.
"This change occurred because two names were found to be duplicated in the passenger data, as well as one name previously included in the manifest list, but after further investigation it was confirmed that they would not depart using the KM Nurul Salsa," said Andi Sultan.
