DKI Jakarta Police Call 19 Storage Depots After Severe Traffic in Cakung

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) summoned around 19 container depot managers in the East and North Jakarta area as a step to follow up on the severe congestion at Simpang Kolong Cakung.

"Yes, so today we will call all the depots around here. There are 19 of them. In East Jakarta there are seven, in the North there are 12. We will meet with all the depots," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service Budi Awaluddin in Jakarta, Thursday.

The coordination meeting was held to find a common solution so that the queue of container trucks to the warehouse would no longer cause long traffic jams around.

According to Budi, the congestion was caused by a surge in imported containers that were not commensurate with the export flow.

"The packages that come in are many, while the ones that are transported are less. So it's a buildup. And this is already overloaded, so it's put in the warehouses that are there now," explained Budi.

In addition, trucks are also continuing to arrive to deliver and pick up empty containers.

"Well, on the one hand, these trucks also want to enter carrying empty containers. In the end, they pile up there," said Budi.

As one of the solutions, Dishub DKI will ask the container terminal managers to increase the capacity of container stacking so that stacking does not occur again.

"This is what we will also ask in the future so that the capacity limit can be increased. Like that. If it is currently 65 percent, it can be 75 or 85 percent. So that this kind of incident does not happen again," said Budi.

Meanwhile, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) imposed traffic engineering by temporarily closing the Cakung roundabout in the Cakung-Cilincing area to reduce vehicle traffic density, especially container truck queues.

Budi said his party diverted vehicle traffic to the Tanah Merdeka Terminal area, which was considered more adequate as a waiting place than queuing on the road.

Tanah Merdeka Terminal has a large capacity and can accommodate around 200 container trucks.

Drivers can rest or wait until traffic conditions return to normal or until the right time to continue their journey.

Budi appealed that container trucks that want to turn around should follow the diversion that has been prepared by officers to another round or to the Tanah Merdeka Terminal.
