MacBook Pro, Air to Neo to be Updated, Here's the Leak

JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly preparing a major update for the entire MacBook line in the next six months. The refresh is said to include the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, to the Neo MacBook as part of the company's strategy to bring devices that are more ready to support the needs of artificial intelligence (AI) computing.

Bloomberg's report says Apple will start a wave of updates at the end of 2026 by introducing several new models. One of the highlights is the entry-level version of the 14-inch MacBook Pro, which is expected to be one of the first devices to use the Apple M6 chip.

The model with the code name J804 is said to be part of the latest MacBook Pro line. However, the M6 chip is expected to have a relatively short lifespan because Apple is believed to be switching to the M7 chip, which is designed to be more optimal for AI processing.

In addition to the entry-level model, Apple is also rumored to be preparing updates for the high-end MacBook Pro models with the code names K114 and K116. Both models are said to bring a new design that has long been rumored, including the use of an OLED screen and support for a touchscreen.

Despite the new design, the report says the premium MacBook Pro will still use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips like the current generation. The upgrade to the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips is expected to arrive at the end of 2027 or early 2028.

In the more affordable segment, Apple is also said to be developing the latest version of the MacBook Neo. The device is rumored to switch from the A18 Pro chip to the A19 chip which offers improved performance as well as greater memory capacity, namely 12GB RAM.

Based on the initial test results mentioned in the report, the A19 chip is estimated to be able to increase single-core performance by around 3 percent compared to the A18 Pro. Meanwhile, in multi-core testing, the increase is said to reach almost 9 percent. In addition to performance improvements, Apple is also rumored to be bringing new color options to the MacBook Neo to provide more personalization options to users.

Meanwhile, the MacBook Air is also expected to receive an update in early 2027. The models with the codes J913 and J915 are said to not undergo significant design changes and only bring gradual specification improvements.

The bigger changes are expected to come in the next generation of the MacBook Air in 2028. The model is rumored to adopt an OLED screen, following in the footsteps of the high-end MacBook Pro, and using an Apple M7 chip.

Until now, Apple has not given official confirmation regarding all of the leaks. Thus, the specifications, launch schedule, and product name may still change before being officially announced.
